Learning Objectives

  1. Review National Stats about Ambulatory Medicine and EDs and some terms/laws for critical care
  2. Review and discuss cases about potential office patients verses ED patient’s with attention to discussion about 6401-a process used to detain an individual for mental health examination and 6404-a Certificate of Need for involuntary hospitalization/commitment.
  3. Discuss a patient’s right to refuse transfer, how to transfer, and when to use 911

Dr Samantha McLerran MD

Dr. McLerran is a native of Overton Co. She earned her MD at Meharry Medical School, Nashville, TN, 2001; Family Practice residency, University of Louisville/Glasgow, Glasgow, KY; Board certified in Family Practice. She also is certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Physician Specialties. She has practiced in the ED for over 10 years and before that practiced 8 years in her private practice of Family Medicine. She is a native of Overton County TN and currently works at CRMC in ED for American Physician Specialists. Dr. McLerran is the 2020 President of the UCMS-TMA and represents the physicians in our region as an appointed member of the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.
